National Compensation Scheme

Anti-Slavery Australia made a submission to the Australian Government to establish a national compensation scheme for victims and survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery, supporting them financially.

This submission was made in response to the gap in victim compensation regarding human trafficking and modern slavery across Australian states and regulations.

Four key issues were identified as part of this submission, including:

  1. Inconsistencies between state and territory schemes

  2. Differences in eligibility criteria

  3. Differences in maximum compensation entitlements

  4. Current schemes are not designed for the specific circumstances of modern slavery

This highlights the need for a national scheme that adequately addresses the support required by victims of human trafficking and modern slavery.
